Farmer’s Market Avocado Toast
3.5 stars
The recipe provides a solid artisanal avocado toast. I got roasted pumpkin seeds so I didn’t toast them as the book suggests, but I didn’t miss the altered seeds. For the avocado spread, I used two full avocados rather than a half avocado. That provided enough for 7 toasts rather than the book’s one. A quality toast and easy to make.
Kimchi Mac and Cheese
5 stars
Absolutely amazing! The blend of mac and cheese (sharp cheddar and gruyere) with fresh kimchi is completely ingenious. It’s a dynamic combo. The prep isn’t too arduous, a lot of cheese grating, but if your arm can manage, it’ll make a great meal.
Rose Milk Tea
4 stars
I made this without the boba but the taste of black tea, rose, and milk is so incredibly good that I didn’t miss the delightful balls of jelly.
Garlic and Chili Roasted Sweet Potatoes
3 stars
Very simple recipe with a well thought out combination of flavors and not too spicy in my opinion. A great side and relatively quick in the oven.
Turn Up the Beet Drink
4 stars
The cinnamon, vanilla extract, and almond milk blend so well together. The beets too shine but subtly so. Very refreshing.
Cold Buster Tea
4 stars
Easy to make, but the right tools are necessary. Mortar and pestle (though they supply a work around) and a sterile jar for excess mixture. The results are a drink that tastes healthy but in a tasty way. It’s such a bright drink both in look and flavor.
Cheesy Everything Bagel Biscuit
4.5 stars
Simply delicious. A tad salty but I’m not used to cooking with salt anymore so that could just be me. Once more, I was able to spread the dough to more than 6 biscuits directed in the instructions. I’m glad because it means more biscuits for the next few days.
Garlic Noodles with Crab
3.5 stars
This could easily be rated higher had I bought the correct canned crab but sadly I over looked the “lump” crab adjective. Still, even with shredded crab, the garlic noodles really shine in this dish. The Cajun spice added a nice smoky flavor that was not too spicy at all.
I made these recipes last year so I’ll try to summarize best my experience from memory. I think The Honeysuckle Cookbook is an absolute pure delight. A surprise find at the going out of business sale at Alexander Books. There was only one copy left if memory serves which adds to the luck of it all. I thoroughly enjoyed making each recipe and I think I got a lot out of them too. 4.5 stars.
